The time has come: After almost six years, Microsoft has announced a new operating system for PCs: Windows 11. This should bring some important innovations compared to the previous version. Successor for Windows 10

The previous versions are hardly used anymore - especially since Microsoft stopped providing security updates for Windows 7. Version 10 of the Windows operating system is very popular. While users criticized the previously released versions a lot, satisfaction was generally quite high. That was certainly a possible explanation for Microsoft waiting so long to release the next version. However, there is another reason. The software company had developed a new strategy in this area. While new versions of the operating system were previously released every three years, Windows 10 was actually supposed to be the last version. Microsoft had no plans to develop a successor. Instead, the company wanted to keep the software up to date through semi-annual updates and add additional functions. This should give all users permanent access to the latest operating system. However, the provider has now deviated from this strategy. The technical advances and changes in user requirements were too great. That's why the software company surprised everyone by announcing the new version in June 2021.
The system requirements
When considering whether to upgrade to the latest version of Windows, it makes sense to first take a look at the system requirements. The requirements have increased significantly compared to the previous Windows version. An important innovation is that computers with 32 bits will no longer be supported in the future. You can therefore only carry out the upgrade if you use a 64-bit computer. In addition, the latest version no longer supports some older processors. Also note that your RAM must be at least 4 GB. In addition, it is mandatory that the computer supports UEFI firmware. You can see that the requirements have increased significantly. Therefore, the switch will not be possible with older computers.
Low waiting times for booting and updates
An important goal in the development of Windows 11 was to reduce the sometimes long waiting times when booting. Especially when it is necessary to install updates, you often have to wait a long time. This can severely limit productivity if you use your PC for business. With the new version, however, waiting times should be significantly shorter.
Updated design
Microsoft creates its own design for each new version of Windows. This is also the case with version 11. The new design looks very modern, but still reserved. When it comes to controlling the operating system functions, the software is based on the popular previous version: you can access all important areas via the start menu. The only difference is how you achieve this. The corresponding button remains in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Here it is now arranged in the middle. However, this small change shouldn't be too difficult. Another innovation is the introduction of “snap layouts” and “snap groups”. This makes it possible to open several windows at the same time and work with them efficiently.
Better support for tablets
Windows already supports input via mouse and keyboard or touchscreen. This principle will continue to be maintained. However, Microsoft has continued to improve support for tablets. For example, the tablet mode, which ensures that all buttons are displayed in a touchscreen-friendly manner, should now be activated automatically if the device does not recognize a keyboard.
Reintroduction of widgets
Windows 7 used so-called widgets. These are small buttons that you can use to obtain current information. However, in subsequent versions they were banned from the standard settings again. They are still available, but you have to activate them specifically. For the latest version, Microsoft has revised the widgets and added them back to the default settings. Microsoft Teams integration
